One of my favorite parts of local news is how excited people are to get coverage.

"Hi my name is Matt Hazlett, I am with X newspaper and am here to take a few images of the event today." Substitute "X" with the newspaper that I with for that assignment (freelancer life).

No matter what paper I am with the general reaction is pure glee that their event is getting covered.

This relationship with a source can give me great access. In the circumstances of my last assignment, covering a local high school poetry contest, it allowed me to get right up front and sit with the judges.

Overall, I hope that I continue to give these people a chance to share what is important to them in a light that is subjective and able to portray a story.
